Heist goes to the OSCARS!!!

Alright, I took a little breather from the frustrating world of blogging and now I'm back to share some special news: Heist is at the gifting suite for the 2010 Oscars! I'll share some photos as soon as they are available.

Big thank you to the 3 people (and random Asian spammer) who read this blog for...well, reading it, voting and supporting Heist. I have some special projects in the works, some new pieces and some other goodies so keep on coming back and visiting me!

xoxo

They've got it all wrong

Monsanto as Company of the Year?!?! NO WAY! I was alerted to this by our buddies over at Sweet Local Farm and I am just as shocked as they are! First things first, go see Food, Inc. for a better understanding of our industrial food system and particularly the disgusting-ness that is Monsanto. Next, read The Omnivore's Dilemma for a thorough look at the evils of our industrial food system's reliance on corn. Don't believe these shallow attempts at trying to change our minds either:

Support your local farmer!

PS-Of all the anti-Monsanto comments left in the comment section of this Forbes article, I particularly like this one:

Interesting choice for company of the year. Considering that Monsanto’s business practices are monopolistic, unsustainable, and in the case of the cotton farmers of India a crime against humanity. Inquiring minds want to know… are you going to give free Forbes subscriptions to the widows of the well over 120,000 (and climbing) Indian cotton farmers who committed suicide after being ruined by the Monsanto Cotton seed monopoly which bankrupted them with quadrupled seed and cultivation costs? Maybe a subscription bonus for the residents of Aniston Alabama poisoned by Monsanto’s upstream PCB plant? I would also like to know how much Monsanto paid for this advertisement masquerading as business journalism?

Press 1 for...

After dealing with one too many of those annoying phone menus and then getting a parking ticket, these "lessons" carved into wooden desk tops pretty much hit the spot!

Originality? Or Lack Thereof.

Yes, I posted this before, but I was reminded of it again today when I stumbled upon these photos of Dominic Jones jewelry:

I was reminded of the quote above because I, also, have been working on a line of new Heist items based on a rose thorn theme. Ok, maybe it's not the most original idea? Maybe it's been done before? Regardless, it brings up a dilemma...continue working on something I've spent a lot of time and energy on? Or call it a loss and scrap it.

I know other designers have dealt with this and it's just something that has to be accepted in the fashion and design world, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck!

Oh well, since nothing is original and we're all inspired by each other, I will keep on keeping on, giving credit where credit is due and trying to make my way.

Rant over!

I'm absolutely infuriated by this little bit of news.
