Good Idea: Happy Clouds!

Exactly what the world needs right now: Happy Clouds! Stuart Semple released 2,057 pink smiley faced clouds in London yesterday in order to cheer up the people. They were made of helium, biodegradable soap and vegetable dye. After 30 minutes they dissolved in the air.

Thanks to Today and Tomorrow for sharing this amazing find (and the photos above)!

Bridesmaid Gifts

My friend Carol and I have been plotting secret bridesmaid gifts for her bridesmaids/my very best friends for the last few months, so I was thrilled to finally see these pictures of them wearing their new gifts:

Here's a picture of us at the wedding reception:

On a similar note, check out these 2-finger rings that we made for my wonderful new myspace friend, Kristi, and her bridesmaids:

Her wedding isn't until August but she promised me some photos (hint, hint!) so I'll be sure to share them when I get my claws on 'em!

Do you or someone you know have an upcoming wedding or other event that you need gifts for? Contact me for some ideas!

Introductions: Sandra Backlund

I was just making my daily blog rounds when I stumbled on a post over at Today and Tomorrow of Tilda Swinton wearing an absolutely gorgeous knit dress by Sandra Backlund. I stopped by her site and completely fell in love with her selection of 3D knit items. Be sure to stop by to see all her work (and stop by the Today and Tomorrow link above, to see the picture of Tilda).

Bicyclepaintings.com

I must admit, I'm not much of a bike rider. In fact, I think I've broken that cliché: "It's like riding a bike" - I think I forgot how! Regardless, these bike paintings by Taliah Lempert are really interesting and beautiful. And get this, she will even do a custom portrait of your bike!

The Crisis of Credit Visualized

The Crisis of Credit Visualized from Jonathan Jarvis on Vimeo.

If you're like me and have NO idea how the financial system works, then this video is for you. It's an extremely well made visual of the current credit crisis and it's pretty interesting too...even for those of us who find this stuff incredibly dull!

Vacation Mode

Hi friends!
If you visit the Heist store between now and Sunday, March 8, you will receive a disturbing message alerting you to the fact that the store is on "vacation mode!" Well, I am going home to Miami for a wedding (I'll have some fun pics up soon) and then for a little extended vacation in Miami and Ft. Myers to bask in the sunlight and take a well-deserved break.

Have no fear, the blog will continue and I will try to post as often as possible. In addition, I will be in touch via e-mail so send me a message at heistjewelry@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

During this time, a few items will be available so please e-mail me for info. Sorry for the inconvenience!

Adventures in Bronzclay

Disaster! I'm still not quite sure what went wrong with these pieces but they went in to the kiln looking normal and came out looking like they rusted! I think all of them except the "Spike" dog tag can be salvaged, but in the future I'm going to have to conduct some major experiments to see what caused this.

The "Spike" dog tag in silver (normal) and the "Spike" dog tag in Bronze (NOT normal!)

Petrie Dish Rugs

I'm loving these medically inspired, hand-crafted and hand-knotted carpets by Bev Hisey created to look like photos of petrie dishes.

I'm also quite fond of her "Sightlines" carpet:

Evident Utensil

I just wanted to share this interesting new video by the band Chairlift. I had the pleasure of accidentally catching a free Chairlift show this past summer at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn when a mutual friend told me to stick around to see how amazing they are live. Well, he was right! I promptly bought the album and listening to these songs now reminds me of pleasant summertime-in-NYC memories.

You might be more familiar with Chairlift than you might think, this is an ipod commercial featuring their song "Bruises":

Shout Outs!

I got a couple sweet messages today from some fellow Etsyans giving me a heads-up that they had featured my work, so please stop by and check them out!

The first message came from Jenna letting me know that she had featured my Swallow charm on her blog, Glitter & Rhinestones. Be sure to stop in and see her themed collection posts such as "Cupcakes" and "Stripes." Lots of cute finds!

Next, please swing by the Treasury created by Cyndigirl07 by clicking HERE. She was nice enough to feature my Graffiti Nameplate and the more visits to her treasury, the better our odds of ending up on the front page (gasp!)

Thanks so much for the support, ladies!

It's Hard Being This Beautiful

One day left!

Only ONE day left to vote in our teeny-weeny, little two question poll (in the right column of this page). Thanks so much to those who have already given me some input and for those who haven't yet, please take a second to click, vote, click, vote (only 4 clicks total! And you don't even need any sort of account to do it!) xoxo

He's Just Not That Into You

Anyone who knows me well knows that I am definitely not a fan of romantic comedies. However, yesterday I ended up seeing He's Just Not That Into You due to some timing problems (I was hoping to see The Wrestler but it wasn't playing at the right time). The movie was cute and pretty entertaining, but the thing I liked most about it was Ginnifer Goodwin's hair!

While it's definitely not a look I could ever pull off (my hair does not cooperate when it's short) it doesn't hurt to dream!
