Miami Highlight: Madonna!

I'm sitting in the airport about to board my flight back to Boston and just discovered the free wireless internet(!) so I felt like I should write about one of the highlights of my brief trip...Madonna! On Wednesday I went to go see the final concert of her "Sticky and Sweet" tour and...wow! I'm not the biggest Madonna fan there ever was, but the show was definitely worth the steep price...the guest appearances from Pharrell and Timbaland probably didn't hurt either. I spent most of the show just amazed that she really exists and spent the other part of the show convincing myself that it's time to go back to the gym...just check out the photo below:

Thank you!

Wow...Heist just received our 50th Etsy order since we joined Etsy at the end of January! This is definitely a Heist record!!! Thank you SO much to everyone supporting us in every way - writing about us on your blogs, selling our jewelry in your stores, telling strangers on the street about us...you name it, you've done it! None of this happens without your help, so THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!! xoxo

A quick hello...

I just wanted to say a quick hello to everyone, as I've been sprawled out in the sun with Zero, and needless to say, blog updates have been the furthest thing from my mind! So until I get back to Boston, here's a picture i just snagged from Wasabi Fashion Kult of my friend Kelly and I at White Room.

Interesting Find: Bunnies!

Andy Warhol, "Man with Rabbit Mask"

Elizabeth McGrath, "The Army of Creatures"

Ji Dachun, "Nice Sweet Mad Things - Sometimes Crying."

Want more bunny art? Bunnylicious.

Homeward Bound: Miami

Well, I've finally pinpointed the cause of my recent homesickness:

That's right, Dexter! I netflixed season one and season two and I have been watching them non-stop and all those typical Miami scenes are making me homesick! Even though I have a love-hate relationship with my home town...it will always be "home" no matter what, and I am so excited to be heading there tomorrow.

I fully intend to hit up Jimbo's and I also plan on indulging in some delicious Cuban food and stone crab. Other than eating, the list includes thrifting at Flamingo Plaza and Antique Mall Y'all...and most importantly, lounging on the beach!

Feeling the Love: Danielle

Check out Danielle, all the way from Los Angeles, CA, rocking her "Danielle" 2-finger ring! Now you may be asking yourself why this "Danielle" ring looks the way it does, well, that's how you spell it in Russian (evidently)! She sent me the image of the word she wanted and after a little coaching...voila!

Do you want your very own Knuckle ring (in any language!)?, just visit the STORE. Oh, and keep these pictures coming in...I'd love to see 'em! xo

How I'm Surviving the Week...

Remember that slow moving week I mentioned in a previous blog? Well THIS just got me through Friday! Check out the Washington University Stereotypes covering of Montreal's "Wrath Pinned to the Mist (and other games)" A CAPELLA! And doing it extremely well too!
For those of you unfamiliar with the song:

Interesting Find: Vintage Mugshots

Thanks to Sally Jane Vintage (who created the amazing photo collage above), I have spent a lot time looking through the Least Wanted Photostream. They have compiled tons of old mugshots and lineup photos from the 1900s through the 80s with crimes ranging from public drunkenness to being a communist. While you have your average scary criminal, you also have grandmothers and children! Enjoy digging through these and imagining the stories that accompany each one.

Introductions: The Black Apple

I stumbled upon The Black Apple while exploring Etsy, and the first thing I noticed was that she had 19,239 sales. Of course the first thing I did was panic, what am I doing wrong?! Then I decided to take a look and see what all the fuss was about. Well, there's a reason why she's one of the top Etsy sellers. Just check out some of her work. I feel like I'm living in some sort of fantasy land looking at these...and that's a good thing!

Inspiration: World-wide street style

It's a dreary, windy day here in Boston and I'm feeling especially homesick for Miami for some reason. With less than one (slowly moving) week until I get to go home, I needed some inspiration to help pass the time, and I found it in my new favorite site Streetstyl.es. It's a handy little site that posts updates from the top style blogs from around the world. From old favorites like lookbook.nu and facehunter.blogspot.com, to some new found obsessions like Reishito.com (straight from Tokyo, this blog has my name written all over it!) Have fun looking!

Big, Bold, Beautiful

I love these bold wallpaper designs by Graham & Brown. I can just picture it in...hmmm...just about any room I can think of, actually! Maybe a wall covered in such a bold pattern is a little too much for your taste? How about just a hint of a big bold pattern instead:

2. Scrabble Piece Charm - With the initial of your choice, available in sterling silver ($45.00). Everyone loves a customized gift! This one would be perfect for Scrabble or other board game players, or just "word nerds" in general! Includes an 18 inch chain.

3. "City Bird" Earrings - Available in 18K Vermeil on sterling silver ear wires ($50.00). For those who like modern, simple pieces, or perhaps for a bird lover! Also available, the "City Bird" charm by itself (sterling silver - $35.00, including an 18 inch chain).

4. Squirrel Charm - Sterling silver ($25.00). This little guy is SO cute! If a squirrel is not quite the thing for your loved one, these are also available as an apple, strawberry, bunny or acorn!

Please visit the STORE to make your purchases. Soon I will add an additional listing for gift wrapping so your items can be holiday ready when they arrive.

NOTE: Keep in mind that Heist items are made by hand and are not made until your order is placed. Therefore, these can take some time. To ensure that you receive your gifts before the holidays, we are recommending you place your orders before December 15. After this date, we can't guarantee you will have your item on time! All you procrastinators out there, we do offer priority and overnight shipping for an increased fee but it's always better to be safe than sorry!

Just as good as ever

I went to go see my ridiculously talented friend, Gabe, play last night at the Paradise Rock in Boston with his band the Gabe Dixon Band. I had just seen them play about a month ago, but it always feels good to see some familiar faces...plus the show is always absolutely amazing. Check out the video below for a live version of "More than it Would Seem," an older song, but one of my favorites. Also, click the link above to see when their tour with Mark Broussard is coming to your town.

PS-The countdown until I can have my own piano again continues!

Cute little finds...

During my daily trek to Apartment Therapy, I saw this creative post about ways to handle those little things us renters have to look at but can't really do much about...like drain pipes! So Cute!

Also, I just had to post a picture of this awesome office from an apartment in a converted cookie and candy factory in Montreal. In the spirit of looking for a vintage item to collect (remember my vintage typewriter post?), I'm now officially on the hunt for vintage fans! SO so cute!

Lust: Comme des Garcons for H&M

I can't WAIT for the new Comme des Garcons collection at H&M. Although most of the items are still out of my price range (that dress on the right is $350!), I will still make a stop at H&M to peruse the goods. Although if the debut in Tokyo is any indication, I'll be lucky if there are any items left for me to see by the time I get there! Check out the video below for a behind the scenes look-

Twisted Beauty: Roadkill Carpet

I'm not sure how twisted the readers of this blog are (I, personally, am not a huge fan of roadkill), but you can't deny the originality of this carpet designed by Oooms. I guess they really describe it best:
"Do you know the feeling that you do not want to take a look at something, but you still do? The Road Kill carpet is a continuous struggle between attraction and repulsion. It’s a warm, soft, cuddly carpet that attracts you to take a nap on it. But at the same time its a repulsive image of a car-flattened, bloody fox."

Feeling the Love: Kristen and Julia

Check out our friend (and Zero's dog-sitter extraordinaire!), Kristen (top) and Julia (bottom), wearing Heist's Scrabble Piece charms! Looking amazing if I may say so myself!

Do you have a picture of yourself wearing your Scrabble Piece charm or another favorite piece of Heist jewelry?? Send it in! I'd love to feature you right here on the Heist blog! Or if facebook is more your thing, be sure to stop by the Heist facebook page and post your picture in the "fan photo" section!

DIY: Notebooks and Mobiles

Being from Miami where we have 2 seasons: summer and slightly hotter summer, I definitely get a kick out of enjoying all four seasons up here in Boston, especially Fall. I enjoy it so much that my first year up here I sent fall leaves to family and friends back home in Miami. Well here's a different idea via Design Sponge for what to do with those fall leaves that are covering the ground right now, a leaf mobile! Click HERE for directions on how to make your very own fall leaf mobile.

Here's another fun DIY idea that makes use of all that excess paper that is left taking up space around your home or office. Click HERE for all the information you need to make your own "eco-friendly notebook." Have fun!

Anything is possible!

I've always been a fan of the underdog. Today definitely reaffirms any belief I might have had that anything is achievable. Here's to turning over a new leaf! xo

Introductions: Shugo Tokumaru

I recently discovered Shugo Tokumaru when I was on a friend's Myspace page and heard his song "Parachute." I went to his page and listened to a few songs and then quickly went to Amazon where I purchased his album "Exit" - I love it! I guess I could best describe his music as Indie/Psychedelic Pop, with my favorite song on the album being "Button" - check out the deliciously psychedelic music video above and then be sure to visit the Shugo Tokumaru Myspace page to hear some more tunes.

Ideas and Inspiration

I have some new tricks up my sleeve for new items to add to the store and they involve a whole new set of materials that I've never worked with before. I ordered all the supplies today and look forward to experimenting over these next few weeks. Let me just mention it involves a kiln...this could easily be a disaster!
Anyways, I'm already filled to the brim with ideas and inspirations, here are a few:
