I discovered the American textile artist, Joanne Arnett, via Rackk and Ruin and wow. Just wow. How is this even possible?!
Arnett "weaves
large scale portraits with wire so the face is visible when light
bounces off it. The images shift, like a giant daguerreotype from
positive to negative depending on where the viewer stands, or sometimes
they completely disappear into the plane of fabric."
A few weeks ago my friends, ANR, asked me to sing backup vocals for them at one of their upcoming shows. Now if you're a long-time reader of this blog then you know I'm pretty much obsessed with them. I mean they even inspired one of my collections. What you may not know is that I've always wanted to be a backup singer. Nope, not a lead singer. A BACKUP singer. I think it started with Guns N' Roses but that's a different story.
So obviously I said yes. And I probably had one of the most fun nights...no make that weeks...ever. As a solo classical pianist all my life and throughout undergrad (I have a Bachelors of Music degree from the University of Miami), I hardly ever have the chance to play with other musicians, let alone super-awesome-crazy-talented friends of mine.
So what's next? Recording backup vocals for their upcoming album and we already have another gig in the works! That's right, guys...backup singer dreams coming true before your very eyes!
This mini documentary about Imogene + Willie, as told by husband and wife co-owners, Carrie and Matt Eddmenson, is oddly captivating. Their store in Nashville, built in a converted gas station, looks absolutely amazing...and let's just say I would do terrible things to to have a studio like theirs.
As my former hometown, Boston is very near and dear to my heart. I won't go into it here since everyone knows what happened and we all feel the same way about it. I DO want to tell you that you can purchase these awesome Boston Tribute Tees from the Adidas site, with 100% of the proceeds going to The One Fund Boston, an organization created to help those affected by the tragedy.
The tees are $26.20 and include free shipping and handling. Also available in Men's (women's style pictured above).
Pssst...If you don't want to purchase a shirt, you can also make a Paypal donation at The One Fund link above.
Check out French rally racing badass, Michele Mouton, "the fastest girl ever." Although I would recommend watching this video muted as the music is horrendous.
I snagged this picture off of Studded Hearts but couldn't tell you who made them or where they came from. I know, bad blogger. But I had to share. How rad are these?!
If you're in the Los Angeles area, be sure to stop by the What's Up Dog! L.A. Benefit Concert at the Witzend on April 11, 2013. $10 at the door gets you in to see some amazing musicians and the chance to bid on our Rodent Vertebrae Pendant as well as other amazing prizes.
The best part is that it's all for a great cause: What's Up Dog! L.A. They're a foundation that rescues dogs from high-kill shelters and helps find them forever homes.
