Athletes Planking

Planking: The lying down game, also known as planking, is an activity, popular in various parts of the world, consisting of lying face down in an unusual or incongruous location. The hands must touch the sides of the body, and having a photograph of the participant taken and posted on the internet is an integral part of the game. Players compete to find the most unusual and original location in which to play. The location should also be as public as possible, and as many people as possible should be involved.

That last shot, submitted by the Steelers' Maurkice Pouncey, was accompanied by the caption "Please start football soon asap [we] are running out of things to do!! Now plank that!"

WINTER IS COMING!

I'm so excited for the HBO series, Game of Thrones, which premieres on April 17th. HBO just released the first 15 minutes of the series as a little teaser. Omg. I CAN'T WAIT!!!

Rule #32: Enjoy the Little Things

I think Jesse Eisenberg and I would get along just swimmingly. Zombieland, The Squid and the Whale and Adventureland? Need I say anything more?!

And now for the greatest introduction to a movie. Ever. (That is if you like blood and gore and/or Metallica):

Piano Bar

This has been big news in Miami but perhaps not everywhere so I figured I'd share here. Pretty great huh?

Authorities are baffled as to how a 600-pound grand piano wound up on a sandbar in Biscayne Bay recently.
The piano sits on the highest point of the sandbar, about 200 yards from the Quayside condominiums near Northeast 107th St.
Sea gulls and other birds seem to like their new musical instrument, with many using it as a roost since it doesn't get underwater during high tide. Officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said they don't plan on moving the piano unless it becomes a problem for animals or boaters.

Update: Mystery Solved! Although I liked it better when it was mysterious...

Walking Disaster

For all my South Florida friends, If you weren't at the Agency reunion show this past Saturday...you missed out! Here's some rehearsal footage of their song "Walking Disaster." Do you have pleasant memories of your youth listening to this? I sure do! Enjoy! xo

Coming Up For Air

Ever feel like you've spent a period of your life under water? For me, that would be these past few weeks. But I'm proud to report that I think I'm finally on my way back up!

Nugget

The ultimate compliment I can give someone is giving them the moniker "Nugget." The ultimate Nugget is Zero...his name might as well be Nugget since I hardly ever say his real name!

(Next on my "To Read" list is Are You There Vodka, It's Me Chelsea)

Happy VD Day!

I don't so much celebrate this "holiday", although I must admit that Zero makes a lovely valentine. So instead of doing a "real" post today, I will instead direct you over to the lovely Remember...you're a winner blog. Enjoy!

Is it weird that I kind of love Nikki's conservative, polygamist wife style wardrobe on Big Love??

Love/Hate Relationship: Miami

As I come to grips with the reality of moving back to Miami at the same time as the Super-Bowl-spotlight shines bright on this place, I'm really glad to see articles like this that prove that I'm not the only one who feels this way. Some highlights:

"Keep in mind that Miami has the same traffic laws as the rest of the United States; the difference is that nobody here obeys them. The main expressways are Interstate 95 and the Palmetto; do not use these unless you are an experienced fighter pilot."

"To get to South Beach from the mainland, simply drive across any causeway to Miami Beach, then turn around and drive back to the mainland, because the last available parking space in Miami Beach was taken during the Clinton administration."

Modern Life

I'm certain that there are aspects of our modern, technologically advanced lives that exist only to make us feel worse about ourselves. As a complete voyeur and general nosy person, I have to say that Twitter is no good for me: it exists solely to show me all the fun things I'm missing out on.

I guess these are the themes that Jim Lambie is exploring in his work in which he takes certain aspects of modern life and transforms them into sculptural installations such as "Plaza," above, inspired by milk leaking from a bag on the streets of Moscow:

The image of white liquid flowing out of red plastic stuck with Lambie, who essentially replaced the milk with paint and recreated the event seven times using different color combinations, a reference to the daily act of grocery shopping. When installed, the bags hover above the floor at a height similar to where they would be if one were carrying them full of food. The piece, based in reality, becomes abstract as liquid pours out of the bags in streams of color, down the baseboard to the floor.

BOOM! POW!

If you're an avid Memelodia reader, you might recognize this post from earlier today. But I couldn't just let this one slip by! How completely amazing are these Explosion Pillows by Amelia Bauer?! They're all based on stills from movies such as Blood Diamond and Zoolander and they're all NEEDLEPOINT!!! Puts my Needlepoint Initial Charms to shame!

Dexter!

While not everyone understood who I was supposed to be this Halloween, those who got it really liked it and those who didn't just kind of yelled things like "hey welder girl!" - either way, I'm considering it a success (even if my "stubble" began looking like a bad case of acne by the end of the night!)

And here's a pic of the most bizarre train ride I ever took (heading into Salem, of course)

I hope you guys had a great Halloween weekend too!

Iggy Pop!

The other night I went to the Sweat Records/Iggy Pop shindig at Awarehouse in Miami. I got close enough to Iggy to get a couple good shots:

I thought I was being super slick, until:

That's me in the red being completely UN-slick on Cool.Pool.Events! Whoops!

And the Story Began...

I returned home today from a little overnight trip to the Florida Keys (photos to come) for a friend's birthday celebration, and promptly passed out into a good, long nap. Now I'm wide awake perusing the internet at 2:00AM and catching up on my blog reading. I figured I should maybe catch up on some blogging (hate that word!) while I wait for the zzzzzzz to come:

If you haven't seen 500 Days of Summer yet, get out and do it NOW! (Summer and I might as well be the same person...dead on)

I completely forget where this photo came from, but I would kill for a studio/office that looks like this!

Again, a mysterious photo that appeared on my desktop - why is my hair taking so long to grow?! I need this haircut!
